A black and white photograph of a mountain range shrouded in clouds and mist, with rugged peaks and snow patches at the base.

Cerro Chalten - another name for Mount Fitz Roy - is shrouded in cloud in this scene. Chalten is a word from the indigenous language of the people of the area, the Tehuelche. The word means “Smoking Mountain” which perfectly describes Fitz Roy and this scene. The clouds in Patagonia, driven by its steep elevation changes and strong winds, are the most striking clouds I’ve ever seen.
