On the morning of this picture, we rose early to try to catch sunrise on the peaks before heading on an 18 mile day of hiking through the Cordillera Paine. This photo was taken on a tiny island in the middle of Lago Pehoe, with unparalleled views of Los Cuernos (pictured) and Paine Grande. The rocky shoreline of the little island had an embarrassment of riches in terms of compositions. I tried several different angles and foregrounds, but eventually decided on this shot - which framed the Cuernos (meaning “horns” in English) beautifully. I also used an ND filter to slow down my shutter speed and get a unique texture on the water. While we did not get a sunrise, the clouds floating in and out of the Cuernos were incredible. It was a great way to start the morning!
