Taken near Ooh Aah Point on the South Kaibab Trail about 1,000 feet below the south rim, this area lives up to its name! I had been down to this area before and knew I wanted to come back for sunrise with my camera and tripod. From this point, O’Neill Butte (center) catches light far before any other summits on the south side of the canyon. When combined with the light and a little bit of haze on the walls of the north rim of the canyon, it made for a beautiful image. I also enjoy the foreground elements of this image, specifically the rocks on the left and right. While shooting, I felt that the rocks softly guided the viewer’s eye towards the star of the show - which is O’Neill Butte lit up in morning glory.
