While Mount Fitz Roy (center) dominates the El Chalten landscape, Aguja Poincenot (Aguja meaning “needle”) stole the show. In this image, I captured a sun star off the side of Poincenot as the sun was beginning to set. This was no ordinary sun star. If you look closely, you can see the sun is casting a shadow UPWARDS of the needle - which was something I had never seen before. Additionally, the spire slices my frame in two. One side of the peak is completely in shadow while the other receives hazy, golden sunlight.
