This photograph was taken at the end of the Lost Mine Trail in the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park. Legend has it that a rich silver mine used to operate in the Chisos. Spanish miners sealed the mine shut when the Apache threatened the area with raids. According to the story, the miners never made it back to the mine and it was lost forever. While I didn’t find any hidden mines on this trail, I did find one of the best sunrises that Big Bend has to offer!
